The Fox Talas 34 is the ultimate fork for variable terrain. It is the ultimate upgrade for your 29er mountain bike. Flick the Talas knob into the short position and you’ll have 110mm of travel that’ll keep you balanced and steady as you climb up the back side of the mountain. The law of gravity states that: what goes up must come down. So, switch the Talas knob back and you’ll have 140mm of buttery smooth travel, perfect for mowing down rocks, branches, roots, and anything that may cross your path. With 140″ of travel, your 29″er will be able to handle almost any mountain bike trail.

Thick 34mm stanchions help prevent flex, so you maintain control at all times. To ensure that your travel is buttery smooth, Fox has added Kashima coating to the uppers. Kashima coating is a hard anodizing process that fills in any micro pores in the material creating a smoother surface, in comparison to a hard anodization on prior versions. Its distinctive gold color is backed by its high performance attributes including extreme durability as well as an extremely smooth feel. The whole purpose and value of the Kashima coating is its friction reduction properties.

The Fox Talas 29″ features the FIT cartridge. FIT stands for Fox Isolated Technology. FIT technology employs a bladder system that keeps the oil and air from mixing to provide optimal performance in all riding extremes. Since the FIT cartridge uses much less oil, the weight of the fork is significantly less than one with an open bath style.

CTD Technology is incredibly easy to use and allows you ultimate adjustability on the trail. CTD is short for Climb, Trail, and Descend. It is a three position on the fly system that provides three distinct compression dampings that you’d typically need on an average ride. CTD is extremely useful on the trail. The rider is quickly able to flip the lever between the three positions, and which results in being used numerously throughout the ride. CTD is much faster than the older click system, where the rider would have to stop and click through to find the proper setting.

Climb mode has the firmest low- speed compression, which maximizes pedaling efficiency and has minimal suspension movement. Internally, the oil flow is restricted, and can only flow through the Climb port, which limits the suspension’s movement. In the event of a hard impact, the spring loaded blow- off valve will allow the damper to go into its travel. Trail mode provides an optimal blend of pedaling efficiency and control on variable terrain. The oil flow is opened to the mid and high speed compression shim stack. Descend mode provides the rider with the most active suspension. Descend mode is an optimized low- speed compression setting which provides the perfect balance of control and plushness for steep, aggressive descents. Oil is able to flow through the high, mid, and low speed ports. CTD is easily controlled by switching the dial on the crown of the fork. This quick and easy adjustment allows the rider to control their suspension on the fly.

This version of the Talas has Adjustable Trail mode. Once the knob is set to Trail mode, this fork allows the rider to have an extra 3 clicks of trail mode adjustability (soft, medium, and firm.) Adjustable Trail mode acts as a fine tune low speed compression adjustment. Adjustable Trail mode provides the rider with maximum suspension adjustability on the trail.

For 2014, Fox focused on refining the Talas’ Force to Displacement rate (Spring Curve.) This makes for a stiffer feeling fork. The Talas also weighs less than prior years. The Talas 34 29″er features 34mm stanchions and 140mm of travel and only weighs 4.4lbs (with a 15mm QR!) Material was shaved, yet the rigidity has improved.

This particular Fox 34 29” fork features a G2 offset (51mm). While keeping the wheel base the same, the G2 offset reduces the horizontal distance between the steering axis and wheel center by offsetting the fork which improves handling on 29” bikes. The hand position moves back and the fork offsets forward which reduces trail without affecting the headtube angle.
